May 2 – The most powerful officeholder in the EU will boycott Euro 2012 over human rights concerns in Ukraine. German chancellor Angela Merkel is among other European leaders who may soon follow suit, while US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has condemned Ukraine’s treatment of the country’s former prime minister.
