YouTube-Only KickTV Launched

A new YouTube channel called KickTV will deliver football analysis, insight, news, commentary and highlights to fans worldwide.

The partnership among Soccer United Marketing, Major League Soccer’s commercial arm, Bedrocket Media Ventures and Google was announced just ahead of this weekend’s kickoff the 2012 MLS season.

“This channel will be a one-stop shop for everything involving soccer from around the globe,” said Chris Schlosser, General Manager of MLS Digital.

“We see a great opportunity on the YouTube platform. This is an opportunity to think about content differently. We will be assembling a team of content experts and we are thrilled about the possibilities that lie ahead.

“The focus of KickTV will be global in scale.”

MLS great Jimmy Conrad, Liverpool legend Steve Nicol and English Olympian Jo Ankier are among the on-air personalities unveiled so far with Bedrocket VP of Programming Stefan Van Engen and MLSsoccer.com editor-in-chief Greg Lalas running the show behind the scenes.

Everton to Embrace Nike?

Nike is reportedly set to replace Le Coq Sportif as the kit sponsors of Everton FC.

London’s Daily Mail reports that the Blues will let their existing contract with the French company expire this summer in favour of a new deal with the U.S. sportswear giant.

The new terms will apparently provide roughly the same up-front finances but also a widened market base by virtue of Nike’s global reach.

Euro 2012 to Boost adidas Earnings

Adidas hopes to beat last year’s record earnings through the London Olympics and Euro 2012.

“We begin 2012 fully energized and fully prepared for another bright year for
our group. There is always great buzz and excitement around major sports events, and they don’t come bigger than the London 2012 Olympic Games and the UEFA EURO 2012,” adidas CEO Herbert Hainer said Wednesday during an earnings call.

“When the sporting elite take centre stage, the pinnacle of adidas innovation accompanies them. This year will be no different and through the power of our product pipeline, marketing strength and point-of-sale execution, we are all set to achieve new records and sustained momentum.”

The sportswear giant from Germany said Wednesday that its earnings per share grew 18 percent to a record high of 3.20 euros or $4.19 during the last quarter of 2011.

More than 1,500 delegates are expected to attend this year’s forum, scheduled for March 28 and 29 in Manchester, England.
