FIFA Selects Official Champagne
Taittinger is FIFA’s choice for official champagne of the 2014 World Cup.
World football’s governing body selected the family-owned French winery Thursday, signing a sponsorship deal for an undisclosed sum.
“Champagne Taittinger will manifest its presence at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in the months to come through various initiatives with the help of its 150 distributors around the world,” the company said in a statement.
The agreement also applies to the ongoing Confederations Cup, also hosted by Brazil.
Sprint Sponsors Gold Cup
Sprint will serve as the official wireless partner for a fourth consecutive CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The wireless network provider announced Monday the launch of its sponsorship campaign, including the selection of a so-called “Fancaster” to rally interest in next month’s tournament via both traditional and new media outreach.
“Sprint is dedicated to celebrating our customers’ passion points and is proud to champion the spirit of soccer with our continued Gold Cup sponsorship,” Sprint Hispanic Marketing Manager Kymber Umaña said in a statement.
“We are thrilled to unveil our official Fancaster this summer who will take to the streets to promote the games, celebrate fans, and offer commentary and analysis of each game.”
CONCACAF General Secretary Enrique Sanz added: “Sprint is an amazing brand known for providing great services to its consumers and will without doubt offer our fans unique activation and promotional initiatives.”
The 2013 Gold Cup kicks off July 7 in 13 host cities throughout the U.S. and runs through July 28.
Beckham Backs China Auto Rental
China Auto Rental is David Beckham’s first new business partner since his retirement from football last month.
The former England captain is fresh off a weeklong tour of football clubs and youth programs in Nanjing, Shanghai and Hangzhou as part of his ambassadorship to the Chinese Super League.
As the visit came to an end Monday in Beijing, the global sports, fashion and media company IMG Worldwide announced the deal with China Auto Rental, the country’s largest car rental company.
“China holds a special place in my heart,” said Beckham.
“I have seen with my own eyes the joys and aspirations of this country during my multiple visits here. It is an honor to have established this partnership with a company as dynamic and innovative as CAR.”
Lu Zhengyao, Chairman of China Auto Rental, added: “We are extremely pleased to have entered into this partnership with David, a global football icon. Together our goal is to promote healthy living, a commitment to sport and innovative solutions to car rentals. We at CAR are proud that David has agreed to support us in our future business initiatives.”
