(WFI) MasterCard is the newest sponsor of Brazil’s national football teams.
As their exclusive payment services provider through 2020, a period that includes both the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, MasterCard gains access to branding rights, ticket pre-sales and more, including the right to run “promotional and experiential programs for cardholders, customers, merchants, and partners” at Brazil’s matches.
“Football is the most beloved international sport, Brazil is a global economic player and a top tourist destination, and there are millions of devoted Brazilian National Football Team fans worldwide, a very powerful combination for a sponsorship platform,” said Gilberto Caldart, head of MasterCard Brazil and the GeoSouth Division.
“For MasterCard, this sponsorship signifies an opportunity to give fans access to one of the best football teams in the world, and celebrate Brazil – a country globally known for its rich culture, music, gastronomy and sports – with just a swipe or tap of a MasterCard card or payment device.”
Deutsche Telekom will be Bundesliga runner-up Bayern Munich’s main sponsor through at least 2017.
The four-year extension comes into effect from the 2013-2014 season and will reportedly bring the club an annual $6.2 million boost above the current $31 million a season deal.
Spurs Sign Betting Partner
Tottenham Hotspur are the latest Premier League Club to sign a betting sponsor as the 2012-2013 season gets underway.
Betfred.com gets exclusive U.K. branding rights across online, mobile, digital and social media platforms as part of the three-year deal.
The partners will also launch a so-called Football Analyzer application on Tottenham’s website to provide supporters with all the statistics they need to place more educated bets.

The firm from Ireland has twice been in the news of late, once when a Danish footballer’s endorsement of the brand violated marketing rules during Euro 2012 and again for an ambush marketing ploy during the London 2012 Olympics last month.

Sunderland will reportedly pay seven-figures to see its logo on the side of Team Korea’s yacht for the upcoming America’s Cup World Series and other sailing events over the next 18 months.
Team Korea will also get logo placement inside the Stadium of Light as part of the quirky deal.
