Manchester City Football Club are on the lookout for the next generation of successful musical artists to follow in the footsteps of some of the club’s most iconic fans, including Doves, the Smiths and Oasis.

The Blues have launched a new ground-breaking music remixer app produced by Soniqplay, which is set to attract the best and brightest unsigned talent around the world. By harnessing mobile technology, City hope to engage with fans like never before and help promote local music scenes from around the world.

CityBeats, which is free to download, allows users to listen to a host of music from unsigned bands and producers and actually remix their own versions of the songs, which can then be shared online with friends and other members of the ‘City music community’.

Bands and producers from Manchester to Miami, and from Moscow to Mogadishu are being asked to share their material via the Club’s Soundcloud dropbox. The best tracks submitted will then be chosen by industry expert and lifelong City fan, Mike Pickering. Current Head of A&R for Deconstruction records, Mike works with some of the UK’s most successful acts including Calvin Harris, Kasabian and the Ting Tings.

“Music and football are Manchester’s most famous cultural exports and CityBeats will combine them both in a unique and dynamic way, said Mike Pickering, Music Ambassador for the CityBeats project.

“You only need to look around the Etihad Stadium on a match-day and you might see Noel, Liam Gallagher and Johnny Marr. Hopefully CityBeats will help the next the generation of musicians and DJ’s break through, from the stands to the stage.”

Designed to help fans discover new music, the CityBeats app acts as a handheld music studio allowing users to become ‘digital content creators’, and share their material and mixes with thousands of people, they wouldn’t normally reach.

CityBeats is part of Manchester City’s music engagement strategy, and builds on the Club’s strong links with the local Manchester music scene. More paid-for content and tracks will be made available shortly.
