Arturo Vidal will miss the Champions League semifinals against Real Madrid next week after having surgery on his right knee.

“It’s a problem for Bayern because he’s an important player,” said Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane during Tuesday’s press conference.

“We’re upset that he’s injured, but nothing changes. They’re a team with a very good squad and great players that can fill in,” added Zidane.

In fact, the Chilean midfielder won’t play for the rest of Bayern Munich’s season while he recovers from his repaired rear lateral meniscus.

Vidal was hoping to play again this campaign after sustaining the injury earlier this month in a game against Sevilla. He was substituted after 36 minutes and aggravated his knee problem last Sunday in his first training session.

Prior to missing the second leg against Sevilla through injury, Vidal had appeared in all but one of Bayern’s Champions League games this season.

Aside from the Champions League semifinals, Vidal will also miss Bayern’s semifinal tie in the German Cup against Bayer Leverkusen.

The Chile midfielder has scored six times in 22 appearances in the Bundesliga this season but last played domestically in the 2-1 defeat at RB Leipzig a month ago.

Vidal will have enough time to recover his knee as he won’t see action in the upcoming World Cup since Chile did not qualify.

Sergio Aguero on the other hand will be in Russia with Argentina provided he fully recovers from the minor knee surgery he underwent on Tuesday.

“Recovering from an arthroscopy on my knee,” Aguero tweeted. “Fully motivated to get back soon to the field.”

The injury has forced the Manchester City striker on the sidelines for about a month.

He returned to action as a substitute in the derby defeat to Manchester United two weeks ago.  Aguero made another brief cameo appearance during City’s unsuccessful attempt at a Champions League comeback against Liverpool last week to no avail.

Aguero has not started a game since City’s victory over Chelsea on March 4, although he was an unused substitute against Basel on March 7.

No timeline for his recovery has been given.
