Budweiser Signs On for More US Soccer

Budweiser is redoubling its sponsorship of football in the US. The beer brand’s parent company, Anheuser-Busch, has announced the multi-year renewal of its relationship with Soccer United Marketing, Major League Soccer’s marketing arm.
“Anheuser-Busch has a rich history in soccer, and we’re thrilled to continue our role as an ambassador of the sport through SUM’s top properties,” said Anheuser-Busch marketing vice-president Mark Wright.
“Not only do we have a chance to grow the sport nationally through our sponsorships of Major League Soccer and the Mexican National Team’s in the US, but Budweiser and Bud Light’s sponsorship of the US national teams allows us to reach soccer fans on a truly global level.”
The deal gives Budweiser signage at nationally televised games, the MLS All-Star Game and the MLS Cup as well as global sponsorship rights when the US national teams play during the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the 2012 London Olympics and the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
The trophy given to MLS’ top scorer each season will continue to be called the Budweiser Golden Boot.

Turkish Airlines Partners with Ukraine’s Shakhtar Donetsk
Turkey’s national airline is the newest sponsor of Ukrainian football. Turkish Airlines announced a one-and-a-year deal with top-flight side FC Shakhtar Donetsk that will afford the flag carrier opportunities
to advertise both on the sidelines of Donbass Arena and on the club’s
website and television channel.

Shakhtar Donetsk staff will fly free on the carrier’s flights, as will its training and competition equipment.
Turkish Airlines also sponsors Barcelona and Manchester United and flies to six Ukrainian cities, including Donetsk.

UEFA, EuroSport Renew Rights
Eurosport will cover UEFA’s youth, women’s and futsal competitions through 2013. The annual U17 and U19 continental championships, the Women’s
Champions League final, the 2011 and 2013 European women’s championships
and the annual Futsal Cup and European futsal championships are all
included in the rights renewal.
“The wide pan-European coverage provided by Eurosport has been a
key element for the development and further growth of our youth, women
and futsal competitions,” UEFA marketing director Guy-Laurent Epstein
said.

“UEFA believes that Eurosport will build on the growing interest to
further increase the profile of these competitions in Europe by
providing great visibility and allowing fans to have access to a variety
of UEFA competitions.”

Both live and delayed coverage will be broadcast on the Eurosport and Eurosport 2 channels.

Soccerex and Eurosport Strike Deal for Increased Coverage

Eurosport will bring coverage of next week’s Soccerex European Forum in Manchester to television sets across the continent. The three-year partnership will make the top pan-European TV channel a premium media partner of the annual event series.
“Eurosport is a recognized brand in the football industry,” Soccerex
marketing director David Wright said.

“This partnership
will bring great positive attention to our forum and will also provide
fans across Europe with exclusive Soccerex content for the next 3

Rapids Nab Presenting Partner, Hope for Shirt Sponsor

The Colorado Rapids remain optimistic for a shirt sponsorship in the wake of a missed target date.
“There is significant traction on the jersey sponsorship and I am still
bullish,” managing director Jeff Plush told MLSsoccer.com. “Everything
has to run its course and, rather than shoehorn it into an artificial
timeframe, we have to get a good deal at the right time.”
Despite entering the season as defending champs, Colorado remains one of
Major League Soccer’s few franchises without a shirt sponsor, a
distinction Plush had hoped to end by the time his club opened its 2011
campaign at home Saturday against the Portland Timbers.
Capturing the MLS Cup crown last November wasn’t without its benefits, however.
Westerra Credit Union just signed a six-figure deal to become its
presenting sponsor. A new emblem combining the two brands will grace all
marketing and promotional materials through the 2013 season.
“Bringing on a season presenting sponsor is a special relationship that
needs the right partner,” Plush said. “Westerra Credit
Union embodies everything the Rapids stand for as a championship
organization making this a natural fit for both sides.”
The bank is based in Denver. The Rapids play at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in nearby suburb Commerce City.

Portland: New Team, New Stadium, New Name
Portland’s MLS expansion franchise has a new name for the stadium in which the Timbers will play their first-ever home match next month.

The club announced that PGE Park will be rebranded Jeld-Wen Field in time for the completion of its ongoing renovation as well as the much-anticipated April 14 home opener against the Chicago Fire.
“They were our number target in this process,” Timbers owner Merritt Paulson said at the announcement. “They were the target because they are an Oregon-based company and they share our ideals about community involvement.”
Jeld-Wen is a door and window manufacture headquartered in Klamath Falls, Oregon.

Oil refiner Bashneft is bolstering its support of CSKA Moscow on the heels of a 2010 campaign that has the Russian Premier League side bound for the latter stages of the Champions League.
“I think that Bashneft and CSKA were satisfied
with their cooperation last year and therefore we are extending our contract,” club president Yevgeny Giner was quoted by the Moscow News.
“Our continued cooperation with one of the leading Russian oil companies is an important step towards achieving the long-term goals of the club.”
Giner added that the Bashneft deal is now worth 15 percent more under the new terms but did not elaborate with actual figures.

Mali, Airness Ink Five-Year Extension
The national football team of Mali will sport kits made by French footwear brand Airness for another five years. The sponsorship renewal will afford the Mali Football Federation about $70,000 a year from the up-and-coming brand.

“We commit ourselves through this new contract, to restore the Malian football at the top level of African football, Airness CEO Malamine Koné said. “Thus, we provide stone for the building of Malian football.”
Airness also sponsors
the national squads of Benin and Guinea.

Southampton Lands New Shirt Sponsor
IT solutions provider aap3 will sponsor Southampton FC for the next three years.

“Like us, they are an upwardly mobile company who strongly believe in their business ethics,” said Nicola Cortese, executive chairman of the League One club.
“They are a global company with strong local roots, and a conscious understanding of the role they have to play in the local community.”
The aap3 logo will appear on Southampton’s shirts as part of the deal.
