(WFI) World Football INSIDER rounds up the key results from Europe’s top leagues.

United Off to a Flyer
Manchester United kicked off their title defence with a 4-1 victory over Swansea. Robin Van Persie netted a brace in United’s first league match under new boss David Moyes. Premier League trophy challengers Chelsea beat EPL newcomers Hull City 2-0 under new manager Jose Mourinho, while Arsenal went down to a shock 3-1 defeat against Aston Villa. Manchester City play Newcastle United tonight.

Barca Hit Seven
La Liga opened with wins for Spanish footballing giants Barcelona and Real Madrid. Lionel Messi scored twice in Barca’s 7-0 thrashing of Levante UD. It was new manager Gerardo Martino’s first league win. Carlo Ancelotti, who took up the reins of Real Madrid in the summer, saw his side record a 2-1 home win over Real Betis. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid beat Sevilla 3-1 away.

Bayern, Dortmund on a Roll
Josep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich beat Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0, while fierce rivals Borussia Dortmund edged Eintracht Braunschweig 2-1. Dortmund’s Jürgen Klopp celebrated his 100th Bundesliga victory as a coach. Bayer 04 Leverkusen won their second game of the season with a 1-0 win away to VfB Stuttgart.

Rivière Stars for Monaco
In France, Emmanuel Rivière bagged a hat-trick as Monaco beat Montpellier Hérault SC 4-1 PSG could only draw 1-1 with AC Ajaccio. Olympique Marseille triumphed over Evian Thonon Gaillard 2-0, while Olympique Lyonnais, who recorded back-to-back victories by winning 3-1 against FC Sochaux-Montbéliard 24 hours earlier.

Juventus Win Cup
In Italy, Juventus lifted the Italian Super Cup for the sixth time with a 4-0 demolition of Lazio. Serie A kicks off this weekend.
