England’s World Cup bid team has received outline submissions from each of the 15 Applicant Host Cities that had expressed an interest in the bidding process. First stage submissions were scheduled to be received today, prior to a series of inspection visits which will take place in the next two months.
A spokesman for England 2018 said: “The quality of the submissions from all applicants has been exceptional and we’re delighted with the response. The enthusiasm shown is extremely encouraging. At this stage, the outline submission provides us with early information in advance of the first round of our inspection visits to the Applicant Host Cities. It also provides an outline for what will be the final submission to the Bid team in November.”
The inspection visits will begin next week and will be completed in September. Each city will be visited twice before they deliver their final submission.
The selection process concludes with an announcement in December on which cities will become England’s Candidate Cities in the Bid book presented to FIFA.
The fifteen cities to have made outline submissions are: Birmingham, Bristol, Derby, Hull, Leeds, Leicester Portsmouth, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Milton Keynes, NewcastleGateshead, Nottingham, Sheffield and Sunderland.
