With over 4.5 million downloads, the official UEFA EURO 2012 app is ranked the number one sport app in five European countries (UK, France, Spain, Italy and Spain) on iTunes and Google Play stores, and is in the top five in 70 other territories.

The app from UEFA and Orange is the most comprehensive mobile application for the UEFA European Football Championship on the market, with content available in 12 languages across eight mobile platforms including iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry, Bada, and Java, and a mobile-optimised site at m.uefa.com.

The app was designed to deliver all the information needed for fans to enjoy the final tournament anywhere and at any time. This latest surge in subscriptions means that UEFA now serves a cumulative audience of nine million football fans through its mobile application offerings across all competitions.

The app gives fans worldwide unrivalled access to information from the UEFA EURO 2012 taking place in Poland and Ukraine from 8 June to 1 July 2012.

Fans are able to view live results, team and player statistics, photos, video highlights, news reports and customised alerts throughout the competition. The app also offers new features including a ‘Fan Kit’ section where users can customise and share content with friends to become the ultimate supporter, travel guides for the host cities and a match location finder which provides users with directions to various pubs and bars where games are being shown.

Alexandre Fourtoy, UEFA’s Director of Communications, said: “We are delighted with the incredible global download figures for the UEFA EURO 2012 app. Our objective was to reach out and engage with fans across the globe on a variety of digital platforms so that they can experience the excitement of the UEFA European Football Championship anywhere and at any time. The app’s main strength is its simple and intuitive design which allows users to quickly find the information they need.”

UEFA has also released the UEFA.com app for iOS and Android which has over 4.7 million downloads. The app provides fans with information on European Football including the UEFA European Football Championship, the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League.
